Analog Circuit Design Engineer

The Role

Dataforth is seeking a high-caliber Analog Circuit Design Engineer to assist in the development of next generation of isolated signal conditioning modules and data acquisition systems.

You will be responsible for products through the full design lifecycle, from theoretical modeling to supporting the transition into our on-site manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design innovative precision analog circuits that utilize op-amps, active filters, and isolated power supplies, for signal integrity in high-noise industrial environments.
• Architect mixed-signal systems utilizing high-performance A/D and D/A converters.
• Perform simulation and worst-case analysis to ensure "Instrument Class" reliability performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with CAD designers and the Production Support team to ensure designs are optimized for on-site manufacturability and high-volume testing.

Senior Engineering & Test Systems Technician

The Mission

Dataforth's products are only as good as the systems that test and support them. Dataforth is seeking a Senior Engineering & Test Systems Technician to serve as the primary right hand to Dataforth's Design Engineering staff.

In this role, you won't just follow instructions - you will proactively manage the lifecycle of Dataforth's hardware, from initial EMC characterization in the lab to the deep-dive troubleshooting of complex failures on the manufacturing floor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design Engineering Support: Assist Analgo and Embedded designers with precision prototyping, PCB modifications (fine-pitch soldering), and complex breadboarding.
• EMC & Compliance Testing: Support the Engineering team during Electromagnetic Comparability (EMC) and environmental testing. Setup, execute, and document test runs to ensure compliance with global industrial standards.
• Manufacturing Failure Analysis: Act as the "detective" on the production floor. Characterize and troubleshoot complex product failures to the component level, identifying whether issues stem from components, design, or process.
•  Test Fixture Stewardship: Maintain and repair both legacy and next-generation production test heads and fixtures. Ensure all electo-mechanical jigs are calibrated and performing at peak reliability.
• Data and Software Maintenance: Support the maintenance of production test software and databases. Ensure test results are accurately captured and that software updates are deployed across the manufacturing floor without downtime.

What you bring to the table:

• Education: An Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (ASEET) or a BSEE. Dataforth prioritizes candidates with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and a demonstrated passion for electronics.
• Technical Mastery: 5+ years of experience in a high-precision electronics environment. You must be an expert with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and precision DMMs.
• Software Savvy: Experience or familiarity with test software and basic database management.
• Independence: You are a self-motivated professional who doesn't need a daily checklist. You see a problem, you analyze it, and you fix it.

Embedded Firmware Design Engineer

Role Description

The Embedded Firmware Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Tucson, AZ. This role involves designing, implementing, and testing embedded firmware and software for industrial data acquisition, control, and signal conditioning products. Day-to-day tasks include developing and optimizing code for microcontrollers and embedded systems, debugging and resolving firmware issues, and collaborating closely with electrical and hardware engineering teams to integrate firmware with new and existing products. The engineer will participate in design reviews, create technical documentation, and support product validation and verification activities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining existing firmware platforms, contributing to product improvements, and ensuring designs meet quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Strong embedded software and firmware development skills, including experience with real-time systems and microcontroller-based designs.
• Proficiency in debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis of embedded systems in laboratory and field environments.
• Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles relevant to mixed-signal, analog, and digital circuit integration with embedded firmware.
• Experience with general software development practices, including version control, documentation, and collaborative workflows.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; an advanced degree is beneficial.
• Familiarity with industrial electronics, data acquisition, control systems, or signal conditioning is preferred.
• Ability to work on-site in Tucson, AZ, collaborate in cross-functional teams, and communicate technical concepts clearly in writing and speaking.
• Knowledge of C/C++, embedded operating systems, hardware interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART), and test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers is a plus.

How You'll Make an Impact

This is a dynamic role with two core functions:

1. Advanced Test System Development:

• Develop Robust Test Solutions: Take the lead in designing, building, and deploying automated test systems for our diverse portfolio of analog and mixed-signal products. This includes everything from PCB-level fixture design to complete system integration with custom enclosures and safety interlocks.
• Create Intelligent Test Software: Write and maintain sophisticated test software using LabVIEW, Python, or C#/C++. Your code will manage instrument control, implement complex test sequences, communicate with devices via SPI, I2C, and UART, and handle comprehensive data logging to our databases.
• Drive Innovation: Be the test engineering lead for next-generation products, ensuring our testing capabilities evolve with our cutting-edge analog and data acquisition technology.
• Enhance Existing Systems: Continuously improve and maintain current test hardware and software across all manufacturing lines to maximize uptime, precision, and efficiency.

2. Product and Customer Application Support:

• Become the Product Expert: Develop a deep technical understanding of Dataforth's entire product line, from our SCM5B signal conditioning modules to the MAQ20 data acquisition system.
• Provide Tier-3 Technical Support: Serve as the go-to engineering expert for complex customer issues escalated by our support team. Troubleshoot applications, analyze data, and help customers successfully integrate our products into critical industrial and SCADA systems.
• Collaborate for Quality: Work closely with design engineering to identify the root cause of product issues found in production or by customers and contribute to permanent solutions.
• Own Your Projects: Independently manage the technical execution, scheduling, and cost considerations for your test development and support projects based on defined requirements.

What You'll Bring to the Table

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a closely related field.
• 2+ years of direct experience in designing, developing, and implementing test solutions for analog and mixed-signal products.
• Strong foundational knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, especially as it applies to test fixtures and device interfaces.
• Proficiency in a relevant programming language for test automation (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, C#, C++).
• Hands-on experience using and controlling test equipment like DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and function generators.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented mindset.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred:

• Experience in a customer-facing technical support or applications engineering role is a significant plus.
• Familiarity with various communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet).
• Experience with database interaction for test data storage and analysis.
